BIOGRAPHY

During the mid 1980s, Brenton was introduced to the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture treatment for the management of his hereditary lumbar pain condition that also plagued his father and siblings. A few years later he had his “flaring” Appendix treated with acupuncture. The results of these treatments remedied the complaints without the potential complications and known side effects of conventional Western surgical procedures and Pharmaceutical medications. It was during this time that Dr. T. H. Lee told Brenton “I want to teach you Chinese Medicine”, and his lessons began. (1 of his younger brothers had his first Lumbar surgery at age 23, his sister had 2 Lumbar surgeries by age 25, and another brother had his Appendix removed at age 30 and receives regular Chiropractic care for his spine. His father received 12 surgeries on his spine over a period of 35 years. Prior to his final 6 years of courageously living in shear misery, his physicians permanently installed a Morphine/Demerol reservoir, pump and hypodermic needle into his body. Eventually, when the medications failed to control his pain, he decided to commit suicide).

In the late 1980s, Brenton began an apprenticeship with a Chinese herbalist in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Doung Lai Canh had a small TCM clinic and retail herbal store in the Asian area, and also had an herbal manufacturing operation. Brenton would hang out at the store during his spare time learning about the preparation and application of various herbal formulations his teacher was prescribing to patients. Dr. Canh was well known in the area for his treatment of Impotence, High Blood Pressure, Migraine and Spinal Pain conditions. Under his teacher’s supervision, he began taking preventive health maintenance herbs daily himself, and was even beginning to help friends and family with their ailments using Canh’s herbal formulations.

In the early ‘90s, he embarked on a formal Chinese Medicine education at the Texas College of TCM in Austin, Texas. During this time he met, fell in love with, and married a Chinese woman named Hong Ji. Hong had come to America with a TCM medical entourage to teach Medical Qi-Gong and Tai Ji Chuan. After completing his US Dept. of Education approved Master of Science Degree, they traveled to China for a 3-month visit to meet the family. This was an incredible experience; they were greeted at the train station by a group of 45 or so direct family members!

With the help of Hongs’ family, Benton began to refine his understanding of the finer aspects of Mainland Chinese Medicine. He began an on-going apprenticeship at the # 1 Heilongjiang (Province) TCM Hospital and Pediatrics Hospital, concentrating on treatment of Pain, Kidney Disease, GI Disease, GYN, Stroke/Paralysis Prevention and Recovery, Infantile/Children’s Disease. He has averaged 1 month training in China each year since.

Dr. Harvey has instructed at major TCM Colleges, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC), numerous State and National conferences, and operated a private practice in Denver for 7 years. There he treated Doctors and Nurses, and successfully treated several complicated case patients referred to him by UCHSC, National Jewish (Respiratory Hospital) and other local doctors, 3 of which were deemed to be terminally ill at the time of referral.

Currently residing in Shanghai, Brenton is available for consultation.

Emphasis is placed on Preventive Health; leading an active lifestyle, appropriate herbal supplements (including cooking with herbs), proper nutrition, moderate exercise, work and play. Herbal formulations are custom designed to fit the need of each patient, as per their individual diagnosis. Patients needs’ will change as their health regains balance, as they go through changes of seasonal weather, as well as life changes over the years. Over 220 single bulk herbs are in stock. All herbal formulations are made from scratch by grinding the bulk herbs into a fine powder that the patient boils into a tea to drink. This system produces the full effectiveness of custom bulk herbal formulation teas, but requiring only 5 minutes preparation time (preparation of bulk herbal formulas in the traditional manner takes about 1 hour). Patients can also use pill formulas if they wish, but the results are less effective.
