Oolong Teas "Wu Long Cha"
Vintage Villager, Wuyi Shan 2002
old tea lady

In 2002 we first traveled to Anxi to research the processing of "Tie Guan Yin" (and other Green Oolongs), and to Wuyi Mountain to learn about the famous "Yan Cha" Red Oolongs. Highly respected in Traditional Chinese Medicine for their health benefits of regulating Blood Pressure, regulating Blood Sugar, regulating the Digestive Tract, and Lowering Cholesterol, Oolong teas are often referred to as the "King of Tea"!

Green Oolong

1."Tie Guan Yin--Traditional Style " Tea of the Iron Goddess of Mercy (Anxi, Fujian Province)
Big and bold taste, as it is traditionally renown. Multiple layers ranging from superb delicate floral bouquet, into deep and intense strong tasting infusions, with a silky smooth, milky, aromatic finish. Tightly hand rolled nuggets of rather large, thick, waxy leaves, consistent in size and shape. Light oxidation and final roasting process. Good for numerous infusions of a heavenly greenish-golden colored liquor. Our "Special Reserve Tie Guan Yin", when available, is certainly "The King of Tea".

2." Tie Guan Yin--Taiwan Light Style" Tea of the Iron Goddess of Mercy (Anxi, Fujian Province)
Light floral bouquet, with a "very green" Oolong taste, and color. Rather young, small sized leaves processed with a very minimum oxidation, very light roasting, as per the Taiwan High Mountain Oolong processing standard. This new product in China is a result of the recent influx of Taiwanese investment into Fugian Province tea region, and subsequential control over much of the tea processing, since 2002. (Often sold on the market abroad as Taiwan High Mountain grown Oolong).

Red Oolong

5. "Da Hong Pao" Long Red Robe (Wuyi Mountain, Fugian Province)
Wuyi Mountain grown red (dry) leaf Oolong. However, contrary to popular belief, this tea is actually "moderately" oxidized and roasted. This is why the wet leaves present mostly green color, with gorgeous serrated red edges and crease marks. Exquisite, red beverage, heavily textured, with multiple layers of super-rich taste. Lightly orchid and osmanthus flower scented. The only type of tea that can hold up to the richness of a cup of Coffee!
